David de Gea is rumored to be considering retirement.
“De Gea could retire if he is not offered the number one role at a major club,” Jamie Jackson, a reporter for the British newspaper The Guardian, reported exclusively on Wednesday (July 23). He left Manchester United last summer when his contract expired,” Jackson reported.
“De Gea has turned down several offers, including from Saudi Arabia. Money is not a motivator. De Gea is waiting for the right club and a manager who believes in him to keep him in form. At 33, he wants a club to compete for major honors (trophies)
Until last season, Mourinho was considered one of the last legacies of Alex Ferguson’s reign. Since joining United in 2011, Mourinho has been in charge of an Old Trafford goal that has been shaky since Edwin van der Sar. He was praised for his lightning reflexes and fantastic saves.
However, his form has faltered rapidly of late. His clean sheets have increased noticeably. In every important game, he made a fatal mistake that didn’t live up to his name, disappointing fans.
De Gea’s contract with United expired on June 30. United held out to sign De Gea to a lower weekly wage, even though he had agreed to a significant pay cut. United are looking to strengthen across all positions and are tinkering with the existing salary structure. De Gea is one of the highest paid players in England, so a cut was inevitable.
But that’s how it ended. De Gea would eventually leave Old Trafford. In July, United announced on their website: “De Gea is leaving. After 12 years with the club, he will be remembered as one of the greatest goalkeepers in its history.”
“It takes a tremendous amount of skill and character to play even one game for United. For (De Gea) to make 545 appearances in 12 years is a special achievement. “For him to have played 545 times in 12 years is a special achievement, especially in the goalkeeping position, where the spotlight is on him in every game.
“To be voted Player of the Year four times each by the fans and his peers is a testament to his quality and class. He will always be remembered as one of the greatest goalkeepers in the club’s history. We are grateful for his contribution to our 25 clean sheets last season. All the players and staff wish De Gea all the best.”
Director John Murtagh added: “De Gea leaves United with the deepest respect and warmest thanks from everyone at the club. His record of appearances and clean sheets, surpassed only by Alex Stepney and Peter Schmeichel, shows what a great player he was.”스포츠토토
“He will be missed by all of us who have had the privilege of working with him over the past 12 years. De Gea will always be part of the United family and we look forward to welcoming him back to Old Trafford as a club legend.”
In De Gea’s place, United have signed Andre Onana, a protege of Van Gaal. On his arrival in the Premier League (PL), Onana said: “It is an incredible honor to join United. I have worked hard my whole life for this moment. It will be another incredible experience to be at Old Trafford and contribute to the team towards our goals. With new teammates, new ambitions, a new journey begins for me. Manchester United has had some amazing goalkeepers in its long history. I will give everything to create my own story. I am very happy to be working with Van Gaal again, I know what he has in mind for this great club. Together we will achieve success,” he said, vowing to do his best to revive the franchise.
De Gea searched for a new club. Real Madrid had been linked to him in the past. “Real have entered the transfer market to find a replacement for Thibaut Courtois,” said Spain’s As. Courtois will be out for at least six months with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and is expected to undergo surgery. Real have been in contact with De Gea, who is out of contract at United this summer. De Gea has tons of experience and is no stranger to the game, having spent eight years at Atletico Madrid as a youngster. As a free agent, there would be no need for lengthy negotiations. He is expected to return to Madrid, the city of his birth.”
However, the move to the Santiago Bernabeu did not materialize. Real turned to Kepa Arrizabalaga instead of De Gea. Kepa had an up-and-down start to his Chelsea career, but he was given a number of chances last season and gradually improved his form. He was expected to secure a starting spot after teammate and rival Edouard Mendy left for Saudi Arabia, but Robert Sanchez arrived from Brighton. In the end, Kepa joined Real.
De Gea was a lame duck again, unable to find a new team before the transfer window closed. He’ll have to wait for the winter transfer window next January. This time, Spanish clubs have made contact. “De Gea is still without a club after his contract expired at Manchester United,” said Spanish publication Pichajes. Real Betis have targeted De Gea. They wanted Claudio Bravo, but negotiations didn’t go as planned. As a result, Betis are looking for a new goalkeeper and De Gea is perfect. You don’t want to miss out on the possibility of getting a goalkeeper of his caliber for free. However, Betis are not the only club interested. Valencia are also trying to bring in the experienced De Gea.”
De Gea’s career has been on hold since he was forced out of Old Trafford, and The Guardian claims that he could consider retirement if he doesn’t receive an offer from a club competing in the major competitions. Money is certainly not a consideration, as the Saudis, who lured Cristiano Ronaldo with astronomical salaries, have also turned down the likes of Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, and Neymar. As The Guardian notes, he wants a club to compete for trophies. However, no mega club has been linked with De Gea. The once stalwart guardian of Old Trafford is falling without wings.
