The Illawarra Hawks lost 71-85 against Melbourne United in the 2023 NBL Blitz at the Gold Coast Convention Center in Australia on Sunday (Nov. 18).

The NBL Blitz is an annual preseason tournament for all teams. All games will be played on the Gold Coast, Queensland, and will be in front of fans from September 16-22.

Hyunjoong Lee, who will be playing for Illawarra this season, also made an appearance at the game. Lee made his preseason debut on March 3 against the New Zealand Breakers.

At the end of the first quarter, Lee struggled to drive to the basket and was blocked by the defense, but he managed to score with a clean mid-range jumper. Lee returned to the court at the end of the fourth quarter, but was unable to add to the lead.

The game was won by Melbourne, who were led by NBA player Matthew Dellavedova (20 points, 5 rebounds). Delavedova gave his team an early lead with a 17-point performance in the first nine minutes of the game. Behind DellaVedova, Melbourne maintained a comfortable lead and held on for the win.

The Illawarra will play their second match against Brisbane on the 20th. Lee Hyun-joong, who hasn’t spent much time with the team yet, is expected to improve his chemistry with his teammates through these preseason matches.
